UPCOMING EVENTS & MEETINGS
Dictionary Day!! – February 23rd 2012
Volunteering for Oakland will distribute dictionaries to a total of 235 third grade students at these four Oakland schools: Bella Vista, Ascend, Manzanita SEED and Manzanita Community, using dictionaries provided by the California Dictionary Project.
This is a wonderful opportunity for us to participate in the literacy efforts of our schools. Other agencies are also participating in Dictionary Day at other schools and we hope that every 3rd grader is included by the end of the school year.
At the first of our sponsored schools, Manzanita Seed, the 35 third graders received their dictionaries on Thursday, January 19th. Our next scheduled volunteer opportunity will be on Wednesday February 23rd, 2012 at Manzanita Community. Anyone interested in participating in future dates should contact Toni Rubardt at: rubardt@gmail.com.
